Reflections Summer 2008

I learned that people all over have the same heart and soul. My previous stereotypes have disappeared. I also got to know my classmates better.

I learned how to see people differently.

The best thing about Los Embajadores was getting to experience and see all aspects of Mexican living conditions and interact with many locals. The most important thing that I learned is that spending your time and donation yourself and your time to a cause can help more than donating a million dollars.

I saw poverty with my own eyes and had to sacrifice daily things, allowing me to become more humble and grateful.

The most important thing I learned was about the power we hold over ourselves to remain positive, work hard, help others, and keep an open mind entering a new situation.

We are all "one people." We are the same in our desires, our needs, and in our hearts.

God is present everywhere... even where we saw despair, I saw hope and could feel that God was there watching, guiding, testing, teaching, and eventually saving us all.

Witnessing that despite our two different languages, we could understand each other, was a spiritual experience for me.

Happiness doesn't come from material possessions, it comes from making the best out of what you have.

Service and community go hand in hand. I'm glad to have an amazing experience with the community. I learned and grew from it!

I really felt a profound sense of solidarity with the Mexican people and love how it's fostered by each of the 5 pillars of the Los Embajadores program.

The most important thing in life is your family and acceptance of others, and that the smallest changes will eventually make a great impact!

I connected with people I never thought I would on a whole new level.

I felt so accepted by the community and was aware of a broad spectrum of social injustices that they face on a daily basis.
